St. John Vianney, long known as patron of parish priests, is now declared, in this international year for the priest, the patron of all priests in their sacramental ministries. St. Vianney, also called the Cure’ of Ars, was known to have prayed as follows when appointed the new pastor of his life’s parish: “Lord, whatever it takes for the salvation of this parish, I am willing to do.” This captures the priestly heart, especially a pastor’s heart.
